Country Side & Sightseeing
Explore the real Jamaica on this Countryside tour! Leave behind the hustle and bustle of the usually crowded tourist areas and travel into the rural communities to experience real Jamaican hospitality, culture and heritage of this beautiful Island.
Let us take you on a grand Country Side Sight Seeing Tour, we will journey through the hills and valleys. We will answer to Nature’s call, can you smell that? Its the scent of the sweet Jamaica Country Breeze.Lets journey through:
Fern Gully – A former river bed, it is now possible to walk three miles through the valley in the shadows of magnificent ferns and hardwood trees. Jamaica has more than 500 species of ferns, and you can see at least 300 of them in this dark, shaded gorge almost 3 miles in length.Until an earthquake around 1907, the gorge was one of the eight flowing rivers of the Ocho Rios area. The river disappeared during the earthquake and the river bed was turned into a paved road.
Claremont – the district of Claremont was first called “Finger Post” until it was renamed in honour of the first house built there, “Clermont House”. The countryside around the town has for centuries been home to the wealthy landed gentry, and still today is dotted with estate houses.
Bamboo – a deep rural farm village that was formerly known as Excellence Town.
Brown’s Town – Brown’s Town became significant as a market centre in the mid-19th century following the abolition of slavery. A visit to Brown’s Town in St. Ann is a great way to see a genuine Jamaican market town.
Runaway Bay – named Runaway Bay because it was once an escape route for runaway slaves. The first native settlers to the island, and the area around Runaway Bay were the Arawaks, and while they put up a valiant fight to retain control they were eventually overpowered by the Spanish explorers, who claimed the land for the Queen of Spain. Now mostly known as a resort area, the nearby village of Nine Mile is the birthplace, and final resting place, of famed reggae artist Bob Marley.
